This Does Not Belong To Us

Street sign, 2002 Sighthill, Glasgow, UK

A site specific piece centered around a simulated street sign entitled “This Does Not Belong To Us”. The sign was placed on the façade of a residential building in Sighthill, one of the most troubled suburbs of Glasgow. The imitation of a pre existing official aesthetic and the ambivalence of the phrase embodied questions such as who are “us” and the concept of belonging in relation to authority and authorship and forced a reinvestment of values and possessions.
