JOYCE IP’s works experiment with the plural nature of subjective experience and its dual relationship to intersubjective human connectedness. Limited and carefully focused subjects and images allow her to casually approach the present constructs where each expressive element is challenged and broken down, revealing the underlying fragility of our most common assumptions. By staging encounters with various complexities of authentic illusions and fictional memories, Joyce’s work manage to make liminal phenomena surface as negotiations of convenient heritages of social and collective consciousness.

 

Joyce Ip, born 1977 in Hongkong, is based in Stockholm, Sweden. She is a MFA graduate of the Royal Art Institute in Stockholm and Glasgow School of Art. She works with audiovisual media, installations, screenings and texts. The works are often related to the site and situation. Joyce Ip is also one of the initiators of the artist collective and curatorial cell Blot.
